The proprietary wine called Siena (usually a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot) has evolved from a two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in 1991, to a 70% Sangiovese wine in 1994 (the finest Siena to date). The 1993 Siena jumps significantly in quality over the earlier vintages, with more of a cedary, cherry nose, excellent flavor richness and definition, and a spicy, easy-going finish with just enough acidity to provide focus. One of the bright shining success stories of California, Ferrari-Carano has a brilliant future.
