Magnum, Last Tasted 3/92This is an exotic, atypical example of Ausone. A huge nose of chocolate, toffee, caramel, and spices suggested Pomerol rather than St.-Emilion. In the mouth, there is plenty of density and richness, some signs of overripe fruit, and a rich, concentrated, cedary, caramel-tasting wine. Some tasters will find it bizarre, but I thought it was in magnificent condition. While it warrants consumption, it is capable of holding its own for at least another 5-10 years.
