The 2005 Falerno del Massico Etichetta Bronzo is an impressive wine. A compelling melange of tar, smoke, ash, cured meats, minerals and dark fruit emerge from its powerful, brooding frame. The Etichetta Bronzo continues to develop beautifully in the glass, revealing layer after layer of flavor. There is wonderful complexity and nuance here, not to mention considerable personality. Powerful tannins build on the imposing finish. This virile, backward wine needs several years of bottle age, but it is very impressive. After an hour or so the wine softens quite nicely. Only some small imperfections in the bouquet keep the score from going higher; readers who can look past that flaw might very well score this wine higher. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2023. Masseria Felicia is one of the emerging producers of Campania’s Falerno district, a region that enchanted Roman poets several thousand years ago. Set on the hills of the Massico volcano north of Naples, these 80% Aglianico, 20% Piedirosso blends ooze with character and personality.Importer: Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel. (631) 467-5907
