The 1988 has some ripe fruit in evidence, but the tannin levels are too elevated for the wine's balance. Medium-bodied, with some attractive spicy fruit, overall, this wine is an uninspiring, indifferent winemaking effort. Last tasted 6/94
This estate has impressive hillside vineyard sites in addition to very old vines, so the potential for brilliant wines is obvious. To date, the wine has been an old-style, slightly oxidized Gigondas that is heavy and forceful. The 1995s may be a sign that more freshness and an earlier bottling are making some inroads at this property.
