The 2009 Pietranera is an attractive, entry-level wine graced with silky red fruit, tobacco, sweet herbs, mint and licorice. The sheer textural finesse and length are impressive. High-toned, floral aromatics reappear on the finish. Pietranera is mostly Sangiovese with some Canaiolo. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
Piaggia is one of the most exciting wineries in Tuscany. In particular, the Carmignano Riserva Piaggia, stellar again in 2007, is one of the region’s top reds.
