The 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Toni is another wild wine. There is plenty of depth and concentration in the fruit, but those qualities are matched by the wine's rusticity. The bouquet in particular requires considerable time for elements of game and brett to blow off, which they do to a large extent. Jammy dark fruit, spices and French oak linger on the finish. This is a quirky wine that requires patience and a lot of air. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. Cataldi Madonna is a great source for delicious wines from Abruzzo. I tend to gravitate towards the lower end of the spectrum, where most of the best values lie.Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
