All three wines from Bodegas Peique are 100% Mencia. The 2003 Seleccion Familiar, from the same vineyard sources as the Vinedos Viejos, is given 19 months in new French (80%) and Hungarian (20%) oak barrels. The oak treatment makes for considerably more aromatic complexity with expansive aromas of smoke, vanilla, pain grille, mineral, coffee, black currant and blueberry. The wine is medium to full-bodied with considerably more concentration and layered flavors as well as a longer, pure finish.
