The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon is now 24 years old, and unfortunately, it looks every day of that. I opened a second bottle of it to ensure I was giving it its best shot, however the fruit has desiccated and torn, showing heady development both on the nose and in the mouth. The tannins are excellent—fine and pliable and lingering in the best of ways—however, the fruit has not made it this far. I have had many Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignons that are much older than this, so I assume that something happened in this vintage, or to these bottles, to make them this way. There is dark chocolate, roast beef crust, date, figs and plums, framed by a soggy oak character. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
