I really love the 2001 wines from Margaret River. The Cabernets, as this wine shows, are incredibly vibrant and plush at this point yet fully cohesive and harmonious now. At 22 years of age, this still has primary fruit, and it is a pleasure to read it, after all of this time. The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon brings forth concentrated waves of umami-riddled characters: nori, kelp, bay leaf, bone broth, freshly turned earth, cigar box and brine. The fruit that frames this is still singing eloquently of cassis, blackberry bramble, raspberry and sweet balsamic. Lest we forget the gentle notions of eucalypt/mint and arnica root. It's a thing of beauty. Matured for 20 months in French oak barriques. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
