An encouraging surprise, the 1991 San Leonardo is elegant and immediate with a very promising evolutionary trajectory. By this vintage, the winery had reached production numbers of some 34,000 bottles produced per year, up from 9,700 in 1982. Despite that growth, this harvest saw reduced yields because of strong rains during both flowering and harvest. Despite those difficulties, this wine is fundamentally elegant and poised in character. Pretty menthol and licorice notes add to the overall length and persistency. It's ready to drink now after a short decanting.
