This producer's reputation for high quality wine is well-deserved. Readers who taste the 1989 Rioja Reserva will be turned on by its allegiance to Bordeaux, in its small barrique-aged character and opaque purple color, as well as Rioja, in its wonderful sweetness of fruit. It is an authoritatively flavored, powerful wine that combines high fruit extraction with admirable purity and elegance. It possesses full body, an opaque purple color, a big, impressive bouquet of black-cherries and cassis, excellent delineation, and a beefy, rich finish. The wine is accessible because of its super-ripe fruit, but there is plenty of tannin underlying the layers of extract. This rich, concentrated, impressive wine competes favorably with wines selling for two to three times the price. It should age well for 10-12 years. At present, the 1989 is far more flattering and open knit than the 1990.Importer: Jorge Ordonez 39 Constance Road, West Roxbury, MA 02132; telephone (617) 327-1613; telefax (617) 323-0455.
