Tasted at the Denis Mortet Chambertin vertical, the 1990 Chambertin Grand Cru put in a creditable performance after 25 years. Deep in color, it offers caramel, wild heather and dried orange rind on the nose that feels a little smudged, does not possess the delineation of the 1985 by direct comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with Hoisin, blood orange and smudged dark fruit. There is impressive depth here, although it lacks the energy and tension of the 1985, and comes across just a little labored towards the finish. It has probably got another 4-5 of years pleasure to give, but it will not improve further. Tasted January 2016.
