The two 1991 grand crus, Clos de Vougeot and Chambertin, are not as impressive as their prices and pedigree would suggest. Although the 1991 Chambertin exhibits some spicy, leathery, raspberry fruit in the nose, it is medium-bodied, compact, and short. Once again, Chambertin fails to live up to its mythical reputation. Denis Mortet continues to improve. Save for the grand crus, his 1991s are wonderfully elegant, supple, tasty wines with good clarity and balance. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA.
