The 2005 Coma Blanca is 50% Garnacha Blanca and 50% Macabeo barrel-fermented and aged for 6 months in French oak. Medium straw-colored, it offers a mineral, waxy, lanolin, pear, citrus, and faintly tropical bouquet. Full-bodied (14.9% alcohol), layered, and smooth textured, the wine has intense flavors, good balance, and a lengthy finish. Its flavor and aromatic profile is reminiscent of the famous Chateau Beaucastel Vieilles Vignes (as is its price). How it will age is anyone’s guess so drinking it over the next several years is the safest plan of action.
