The 2008 Crianza was sourced from vines of at least 40 years of age and was aged for 12 months in French oak. Balsam wood, cinnamon, mineral, and blackberry aromas lead to a savory but tight wine that will need several years of cellaring to fill out. If that should happen, my score will look conservative.
Vina Pilar is essentially the second label of Callejo made from the estate's younger Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines.
