The 2005 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard comes primarily from two California clones of Pinot Noir, the Pommard and Mt. Eden. Reminiscent of a full-throttle French Pommard, its meaty, herbal, black cherry, and pomegranate aromas are followed by a chewy, rich, full-bodied palate. With plenty of muscle, depth, richness, and tannin, the wine is expansive in the mouth with excellent purity as well as good acidity. It should drink well for a decade.
