The 2001 Cotes du Ventoux Cuvee Fayard is a 5,000-case, tank-fermented and aged blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Carignan. This delicious, fruit-driven offering reveals notes of blackberries, cherries, currants, licorice, and hints of pepper as well as underbrush. Round, full-bodied, and supple-textured (it boasts 14.8% alcohol), with loads of glycerin and fruit, it is a pleasure-filled fruit bomb to enjoy over the next 3-5 years, although I suspect it may last even longer. My tasting notes on my visit with proprietor Sebastien Vincenti ended with the comment, "These wines are simply too good for their prices. Does anyone really believe such amazing quality exists at this price range?"Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
