The 2007 Chianti Colli Fiorentini Il Castelvecchio is a touch softer and rounder than the 2007. There is an attractive intensity and depth to the plump fruit that makes the wine delicious today, although it has the stuffing to develop nicely in bottle for a few years. The Castelvecchio is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot that spent 12 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
Consulting oenologist Luca d’Attoma oversees winemaking at Castelvecchio, a small property in the Colli Fiorentini appellation.
