The 2007 Bolgheri Superiore L’Alberello flows from the glass with notable warmth and richness in its dark red fruit, mocha, espresso and grilled herbs. The ripeness of the vintage is beautifully balanced in a mid-weight style that avoids the excessive heaviness that can plague the wines of Bolgheri. The finish is long, silky and elegant. I wouldn’t necessarily hang on to the 2007 L’Alberello too long, but it should drink nicely for at least a few years. L’Alberello is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
