Boasting a round and generous bouquet, the 2011 Bolgheri Superiore L’Alberello is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and a small percentage of Petit Verdot. It sees long maceration with manual stirring and 18 months in barrique. The results are austere and persuasive, especially in terms of the natural richness and texture of the mouthfeel. The finish is soft and supple, with enough tannic grip to keep the wine firmly planted on the palate. Endnotes of blackberry and exotic spice drive forward a long finish. It could use more bottle evolution.
