The 2005 Nebbiolo d’Alba is a fleshy, generous wine bursting with super-ripe red fruit. Today this Nebbiolo comes across as quite primary but it should develop additional complexity in bottle. The ripe full-bodied style of the 2006 vintage is on full display here. This wine can be enjoyed now with some air or left in bottle for another year or two which should allow the tannins to soften. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015.
Colla is among the producers who have fashioned a stronger Barbaresco in 2005 than 2004. The rest of the line-up is solid as well.
