The 2010 Lighea is Zibibbo, a variety that is much more common in sweet dessert wines. An exotic bouquet redolent of passion fruit, ginger, spices and orange peel leads to an expressive core of juicy, tropical fruit. This is an unusual, but beautiful, harmonious white ideal for summertime drinking or as an aperitif. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.
This year's releases from Donnafugata are mixed. Only a few wines merit inclusion in this report. The 2010 Anthilia, 2009 Sedara and 2008 Chiaranda are disappointing given their usual level of quality. Unfortunately I was not able to taste the 2007 Mille e Una Notte, the estate's flagship red.
