The blockbuster wine in Schleret's current offerings is the late-released 1990 Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive Herrenweg, a huge, ripe wine oozing with honeyed lychee nut and spicy fruit aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, slightly sweet, and phenomenally rich, this layered, viscous wine manages to provide buoyancy in the mouth because of its crisp underlying acidity. An immense wine, it would be best drunk by itself or served with super-rich foie gras.Because of Charles Schleret's low profile, he is not nearly as well-known as Madame Faller of Domaine Weinbach or the Humbrecht family of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht. However, Schleret's wines can be superb. One would not expect such richness and intensity from the 1992 vintage, but Schleret has performed admirably.Importer: Select Vineyards, Neal Rosenthal, New York, NY.
