The 2005 Barolo San Giuseppe opens with high-toned aromatics that lead to sensations of cherries in liqueur, flowers and spices. The San Giuseppe comes across as almost over-ripe, without enough depth to balance the tannins that lack a degree of polish. Elements of greenness also run through the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. Pecchenino remains a reference point producer for wines from Dogliani. More recently, the estate’s Barolos have shown much promise as well.Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
