If the previous four vintages had been warm and dry, 2013 was completely the opposite. It was rainy, cold and late (it rained up to FIVE TIMES the average of the last decade!); the latest harvest in the modern times at Palacios Remondo as they didn't start until October 10. This 2013 Rioja Tinto Vendimia is a 50/50 blend of Garnacha and Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts and matured in a combination of oak barrels and vats for some four months. This is the only wine that does not have the Alfaro name on the label, since it's a blend. Plus most of the Tempranillo here comes from Rioja Alta, as álvaro likes the Tempranillo from Rioja Alta much more than the one from Alfaro. It's a fruit-driven, gentle young red with licorice aromas and a soft palate that is light to medium-bodied and has unnoticeable tannins. 400,000 bottles were produced.
