The 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a beautiful entry-level wine. This mid-weight, feminine Amarone is layered with rose petals, raspberries, truffles, sweet tobacco and herbs. The 2005 shows lovely length and polish in an understated style. I don’t see this making old bones, but it should drink nicely for at least a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
Tommaso Bussola remains a benchmark producer of fine Amarone and Recioto. His wines are remarkable for their textural richness, polish and overall class. The Amarone Vigneto Alto in particular is one of Italy’s reference-point wines.
