The estate’s 2003 Corbaia is a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet aged for two years in small French oak barrels. It is a gorgeous, full-bodied effort packed with dark fruit, cassis, licorice and balsamic notes that flow from the glass, showing outstanding length and fine overall balance, with the Sangiovese providing the acidity that keeps the wine fresh. The fruit is still vibrant and the tannins youthful, so another few years of cellaring seem to be called for. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
