The 2011 Barbaresco Valeirano seems riper and jammier compared to the delightfully floral previous edition of this wine. Instead of rose and violets, the 2011 vintage is grounded in solid tones of ripe cherry and raspberry preserves. That extra fruit maturity has taken away slightly from the overall complexity of the bouquet. You do get plenty of Nebbiolo-driven layers of tar, licorice and soft spice. This Barbaresco is better suited to near-term enjoyment. Drink: 2016-2022.
