Ceretto's 2007 Barbaresco Asij offers up loads up plump dark fruit, spices, vanillin and copious French oak in an accessible style. The warm, open personality of the vintage is on full display, but excessive oak has left the wine with tannins that are unusually hard for an entry-level wine meant to be enjoyed upon release. That said, in 2007 the Asij shows marvelous purity in its fruit, particularly with a little air, which allows some of the excess oakiness to blow off. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
