I found the 2013 Merlot to show classic character, yet also be a touch straightforward and boring. Currants, chocolate, licorice and some smoked earth all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, ripe, rounded, thoroughly enjoyable 2013. Made from 75% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in mostly French oak (59% new), it should drink nicely through 2025.
