The 2006 “FADO” is a blend of Trincadeira, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot in equal proportions raised in French oak for six months. Obviously quite young, it tastes like a barrel sample, grapey and primary. It is a bit thin and short, but it also has some decent flavors, albeit obvious and simple. There is little depth. This has a certain mass market, Beaujolais feel to it. It is a “drink me now” kind of wine, but can hold a couple of years. It may hold longer, but I’m not sure what will be left when the primary fruit fades, so I would err on the side of drinking earlier. In the meanwhile, it may serve many well as an easygoing party or picnic wine. Drink now-2009. Importer: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt. Vernon, NY; tel. (914) 664-3155.
