Some of the difficulties of the 1991 vintage - high, hard tannin levels and a deficiency of sweet, ripe fruit - are evident in the 1991 Hautes Cotes de Nuits and 1991 Cote de Nuits. Both wines exhibit fine color, but the tannins have the upper hand. Robert Jayer is one of the surest-handed winemakers in the Cotes de Nuits, and my reviews of five 1991 offerings are somewhat disappointing in light of what he has accomplished over the last decade. The five 1991 offerings are not the sure bet Jayer's wines have been in the past. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC.
