Regrettably, I was not permitted to taste this domaine's Aloxe-Cortons, Beaunes, Corton Le Corton or Corton Bressandes in January because they were being filtered at bottling. However I was given the opportunity to taste two delicious reds as well as the wonderful Corton Charlemagne. This last wine reveals an inviting and intense nose of melted butter, ripe white peaches and toasted nuts. On the palate, it has a powerful, gorgeously ripe, medium-to-full body, oily-texture, and a highly concentrated core of buttered-popcorn and poached pears. Its beautifully long finish ends on notes of creamy caramel. My experience with Tollot-Beaut's consistently elegant Corton Charlemagne suggests that this wine will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2007.
As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
