Harvested at 13.5% natural potential alcohol and neither acidified nor chaptalized, the 2003 Corton-Charlemagne (white) was left on its gross lees “so we would have enough wine to fill the 5 barrels.” Given the health of the lees in 2003 that was a positive, as this wine fed off of them, creating wonderful richness and breadth. Its roasted pear, toast, and white pepper aromas are followed by a suave, satin-textured character. Medium-bodied, with outstanding depth of fruit, it offers spiced pear flavors intermingled with an enormously appealing roasted element. Projected maturity: now-2013.
