This is irrefutably one of the finest white wine making estates in Burgundy. Run by Gerard Boudot, this 26-acre estate consistently turns out some of the richest, most elegant red wines of the Cote d'Or. One of the best kept secrets here is their Puligny-Montrachet-La Truffieres, made from a microscopic .6 acre parcel of old vines. I did not see that offering in 1989, but should any readers run across a bottle, it is usually of grand cru quality.
The 1989 Puligny-Montrachet-Les Referts exhibits similar richness and intensity, but with better acidity. It comes across on the palate as a much more focused and profound bottle of Chardonnay. Drink it over the next 5-8 years. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Chester, VT.
