A vin gourmand as the French call a hedonistic, delicious, pleasure-giving wine, the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007 Cotes du Rhone is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Carignan, and 10% Mourvedre. A big Provencal nose of garrigue, licorice, lavender, and sweet cherries soars from the glass. Fleshy, succulent, and a total turn-on, this sensual, velvety-textured, full-bodied red should be drunk over the next 3-4 years. As I have written in the past, this biodynamically farmed estate is a treasure-trove of excellent as well as value-priced wines. Proprietor Daniel Boulle offers a multitude of cuvees, and his 2007s seem to hit all the sweet spots on the palate.Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800
