An often overlooked wine from Roger Meffre is his excellent Rasteau. The 1990 is as impressive as his successful 1989. The dark ruby/garnet color suggests super-ripeness and good flavor extraction, and the nose of black plums, pepper, and fruitcake is enticing. In the mouth, this medium to full-bodied, soft wine reveals sweet tannins and a long, heady, alcoholic finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
