The 2014 Chianti Classico Riserva Basilica Solatìo offers an interesting bouquet that is driven by wild fruit and berry aromas on the one hand, with crushed limestone on the other. The wine hits that careful balance between the two that is so characteristic of the Sangiovese grape, especially from the mixed soils of Panzano in Chianti. As the wine warms in the glass, that initial shyness lifts and the bouquet revs up to black fruit and plum. There is a note of softness on the close. Serve it with a platter of Tuscan cold cuts. Some 25,000 bottles were made.
