During my visit to Travaglini, I was treated to a few back vintages, including the 2006 Gattinara Tre Vigne. This is a terrific expression with a real sense of purity and polished intensity. The wine's freshness is intact and shines right through evolved aromas of black currant and dried cherry. The wine's true complexity comes forward with layers of ash, licorice, cola and balsam herb.

Refined, boasting sweet cherry, licorice, mushroom and leather aromas and flavors, this red is ready to enjoy. Both supple and chewy, offering fine balance and harmony, consistent with the structure of the vintage. Still has time to give.
