This estate's flagship wine, Pago de Santa Cruz, is made in limited quantities and very little will be exported to the United States. It is made from 100% destemmed Tempranillo, aged 24 months in new American oak, moved to 100% new French oak for an additional 12 months, and bottled unfiltered. It was an extremely concentrated, dense wine. The wine was a seamless, opulent, and concentrated effort offering notes of chocolate, coffee, blackberry liqueur, and sweet cassis fruit. The wine's smoky richness and broad, expansive thickness is sure to provoke excitement, assuming readers can find any of the 400+ cases produced. The 1994 is close to full maturity, but will last for another decade. Importer: De Maison Selections, Chapel Hill, NC; tel. (919) 933-4245
