Durieu’s 2005 Cotes du Rhone Henri Durieu, from the vast, open plane called the “Plan of God,” shows Grenache-dominated characteristics such as kirsch, pepper, lavender, and spice box. It is well-made, delicious, up-front, and just a total hedonistic turn-on. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
This estate, which has top-notch vineyard sites (some 1983s in my cellar are still drinking beautifully), has come back strong after a period of producing “bretty,” irregular wines.
