The Les Jamelles 2007 Chardonnay offers far more than can be expected of a Chardonnay at its price. Fresh apple, herbs, and hints of spice and vanillin (at least part of this wine really does spend some time in cask) are allied to a quite lushly-textured yet delicate and refreshing palate. Apple pip, toasted nuts, candied lemon rind, and vanilla bean add attractively bitter-sweet notes in the finish. Plan to enjoy this over the next 6-9 months. Les Jamelles’s wines continue to be well-sourced from throughout the greater Languedoc and include some notable values. The latest collection was even more consistent in quality than that I tasted last year. Among the latest releases I tasted, only a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Les Jamelles – while pleasant – failed to really rise to the level of notable value.Importer: Cellar Door Selections, Columbia, MD; tel.
