The 2002 Merlot Home Ranch comes from the rocky clay soils of what was probably a river bed at one time in its geological history. Earthy wet gravel-like notes intermixed with plum, mocha, white chocolate and black cherry characteristics emerge from this medium-bodied, soft, round, fully mature Merlot. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years.
Ed Sbragia, who had his so-called glory years as the chief winemaker behind many of the great wines that were produced at Beringer, continues to operate from his family holdings in the Dry Creek area of Sonoma, where he turns out excellent wines at realistic prices.
