The deep ruby/colored 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac exhibits plenty of kirsch, smoke, and herbs in its meaty, fragrant bouquet. Full-bodied, dense, rich, and layered, with good volume and persistence, but hard and tough in the finish, it should be consumed over the next 7-8 years.
