The 2006 Barolo reveals gorgeous intensity in its red fruits, flowers and spices, all of which are wrapped around a medium-bodied, sturdy frame. Firm, dusty tannins round out the somewhat fleeting finish. Still, readers who love traditionally made Barolos will find plenty to admire here. Brezza’s 2006 Barolo is 100% juice from the Castellero vineyard. I am told in some markets the wine may carry a vineyard designation, but in the US it will be sold as a straight Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.
Brezza remains one of Piedmont’s great undiscovered gems. The estate’s Barolos, made in a rigorously traditional style, show tons of vintage and vineyard character in the classic, mid-weight style that is the signature of traditionally made Barolos from the village of Barolo. The 2006s were bottled in August of 2009.
