When I was last able to taste them, I found the 2005s from Chateau d’Epire quite embryonic and closed-in, though interesting, and I could not so easily assess nor nearly so recommend them as this 2004 Savennieres Cuvee Speciale with its aromas of toasted almond, quince, mirabelle, thyme and honey. Fresh, juicy and clear on the palate, with surprising briskness and immediate appeal for the appellation, this offers a long wet stone, thyme and quince finish of considerable delicacy.Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel.
