This wine turned out extremely well. It offers immediate charm and appeal. The 1996 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin (made from 80-year old Grenache vines) exhibits a medium ruby color, followed by a sweet, kirsch liqueur-scented nose with notes of raspberries, spice, and pepper. The wine reveals excellent sweetness and richness on the palate, with cedar and garrigue flavors. This complex, broadly-flavored, medium to full-bodied, soft Chateauneuf du Pape will offer ideal drinking over the next 5-6 years. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, New York, NY; tel.
