Dayne Sherwood's 2001 Sauvignon Blanc, from 8 year old vines, has a demure nose of gooseberries and citrus fruits, but this wine's real claim to fame is what it offers on the palate. Red currants, raspberries, ruby red grapefruits, and flowers burst forth in the taster's mouth. It is reminiscent more of the Loire's rarely encountered Romorantin (the varietal used in the Cour-Cheverny appellation) than a Sauvignon because of its red fruit flavors. This offering's medium-bodied personality is well-focused, silky-textured, and bright. It is an excellent value. Projected maturity: now-2004.Importer: Southern Starz, Huntington Beach, CA; tel.
