The 2011 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses comes from their 3.13 hectares of vines that average around 40 years in age. It has an expressive bouquet with abundant red cherries and raspberry preserve scents intermixed with hints of wet tobacco. The palate offers fine depth on the entry and good structure. There is a palpable sense of tension here, although a more benevolent season would have bestowed greater persistency. Drink now-2018.
The wines from Domaine Chandon de Briailles have not been reviewed in this publication for (what appears to be) a number of years. I have encountered some decent wines recently, and this is just a small inroad to their portfolio that I hope to expand upon in subsequent reports.
