The 2014 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Sp?tlese offers a clear and intense, nicely piquant bouquet with botrytis flavors; it is clearly dominated by its fruit at this early moment, but shows just a hint of the Doctor smokiness. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, pretty sweet, round and intense, but also fresh and mineral, very elegant and well structured Riesling with a fine concentration of both fruit and acidity. The finish is very mineral and salty, but also aromatic, and reveals a long and aromatic aftertaste. I consider this as an Auslese, so the specialty category.
